1. BORDERS, IDENTITIES

November 18, 13:00h

Balkans representations in recent film production, panel discussion, MKC, speakers: Lev Kreft (Slovenia), Elizabeta Seleva (Macedonia), Kujtim Casku (Albania), Stanislav Semerdziev (Bulgaria), Milosav-Saki Marinovic (Serbia); moderator: Robert Alagjozovski

This academic panel would bring further references on the notions of Balkans and recent Balkans images in film and culture (as part of the academic debate Occidentalism/Balkanism/Orientalism), adding to the permanent (re)questioning of the issue; trying to establish a fairer relations towards the notion of Balkans and the questions of Balkans mentality, which is nowadays more burdened with stereotypes and negative premises than with real complex and deep analysis.

2.BALKANS MARKETPLACE

November 19, 13:00h

How to operate in the European context

The film authors, directors, screenwriters, producers, journalists from the region and guests from European countries are going to take part on the meeting. In a non-formal debate they would try to present and discuss the particularities of the Balkan’s cinematic context. They would try to explore how to creatively use the mutual aspiration towards European film context as well as the need of regionalisation as a part of the European cultural policy. They would regard the possibilities of using both European and regional capacities (studio offers, film workers’ market, exchange of knowledge and techniques, cooperation and coordination among festivals, similar cultural and artistic needs of the market i.e. the audience) as precondition for cooperation among the local and the European film industries.
